Private Label Rights or PLR

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope your holidays were great, and I hope that 2008 will be a lucky and prosperous year for all of you!

Today I want to talk about PLR (Private Label Rights).

Why Use PLR Articles?

What is PLR good for?

Well, first of all, if you want to make money with AdSense, the “make money online” niche will not work for you. People interested in “make money online” don’t click on ads.

So for AdSense, you want to have blogs about subjects that non-technical people read. If you have an interest in a subject and can write your own articles, that’s best, of course.

But if you can’t write your own articles about the subject or are sick of writing about it, you need to get articles from somewhere.

Using Articles from Directories

You could get articles from article directories, such as Ezine Articles. I have done this for some sites, and if the subject is not too competitive, this can work fine.

However, the drawback with using articles from article directories is that there are rules that you have to follow. You have to use the article as is, with no changes, and you have to keep the author’s resource box with its links intact.

There is not a problem with linking out – the search engines actually like this. But it’s a lot better if you can choose what site to link to. And it’s a lot better if you can change the article any way you want to.

Also, of course, there will be the exact same article on several article directory sites, as well as other sites that have picked up the article. So these articles will not be unique.

Advantages of PLR Articles

This is where Private Label Rights articles come in. When you purchase these, you have full rights to them. You can put your own name down as the author. You can change them any way you want. You can break them up into multiple articles, or you can combine them and create an ebook or report. It is as if you have your own article.

The only thing you usually can’t do is to resell them as PLR articles yourself. That makes sense, because then you would be competing with the original site that sold you the articles.

Often the PLR article site will limit the amount of articles sold. They may sell an individual article only 50 or 100 times, depending on the policies of the site.

Even so, if you are using the PLR article on your site, I would rewrite it enough so that it looks different to the search engines. You want your site to have unique artilces. It is a lot easier to rewrite an article than to think one up from scratch, though.

And you only need to rewrite them if you are publishing them to the web. If you use them to send to your mailing list, you don’t need to rewrite them, because Google doesn’t care what you send out in your emails. (You might want to reword them a little, but the point is, you don’t have to because emails are not indexed by the search engines anyway.)

And if you are the first to publish the article, and your site has a decent page rank, the search engines may assume that you are the original author, even if you don’t rewrite the article.

Be Aware of the Quality of the Articles

Sites selling PLR articles vary widely in quality. You can even get a huge collection of PLR articles from Ebay very cheaply. But these articles are probably years old and have been reused countless times.

You are better off buying PLR articles from a site that only sells a limited number of copies. Also, be sure to buy your articles from sites that have well-written articles. There is no sense paying good money for garbage articles that have poor grammar and little content.

Should I Sell PLR Articles?

The reason I decided to write about PLR articles today is that I have been considering selling PLR articles myself. Writing comes easy to me, and people seem to enjoy my writing style.

I am wondering if any of you would be interested in buying PLR articles, if I decided to do this. If so, please let me know in the comments.

Also, if you are interested, let me know what niches you might want articles for. I’ll see by the response whether this is something I might do.

So please leave a comment and let me know what you think!
